The Second Deputy Minority Chief Whip and Weija Gbawe MP, Hon Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has made a heartfelt appeal to Alhaji Baba Jamal, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, to forgive those who opposed him, especially his own party members, particularly the Majority Caucus, citing the importance of forgiveness and unity in Islam.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, March 19, 2026, ahead of al-Fitr, Shaib referenced Hon Baba Jamal’s statement, emphasising forgiveness and unity.
Hon Shaib specifically urged forgiveness for those who wrote a letter seeking Jamal’s disqualification, the Majority Leader, and even Jubilee House. He quoted Jamal’s own words: “None of you are true believers of Islam unless you desire for your brother or sister what you desire for yourself.” The MP stressed that this teaching should guide their actions, promoting unity and peace.
The Second Deputy Minority Chief Whip emphasised the importance of unity, saying, “Let us stay united. Let us forgive ourselves. Let peace reign.” He highlighted that Eid al-Fitr is a time for reflection, forgiveness, and coming together, values crucial for Ghana’s development.
Shaib wished all Muslims a happy Eid al-Fitr, praying for Ghana’s continued peace and stability. His statement resonated with many, given current political tensions.
