The Kadjebi District Police Command has apprehended a 36-year-old farmer following a violent domestic attack that left an elderly woman dead and another woman fleeing for her life in the Oti Region.
The suspect, identified as Chalim Madzaton (also known as Peter Tano), was arrested during an intelligence-led operation at his hideout in Kpaya, a suburb of Ahamansu. His arrest follows the death of 80-year-old Dakolor Semaka.
According to a police statement released on Wednesday by the Regional Headquarters in Dambai, the incident occurred on March 24, 2026, at a residence in Mangoase, near Kadjebi.
Police reports indicate that Madzaton allegedly attacked his 55-year-old girlfriend, Yaa Tugbenyo, and her mother, Madam Semaka. While Tugbenyo managed to escape the assault, she returned to the house later to find her mother lying motionless on the floor.

Responding officers who visited the scene described finding the deceased in a supine position with “visible signs of violence”. After the scene was processed for evidence, Madam Semaka was taken to St Mary Theresa Hospital, where she was officially pronounced dead by a medical officer.
Her body has since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary pending an autopsy.
Current Status
The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Public Affairs Officer for the Oti Region, John Nchor, confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody.
“The suspect is assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court in due course,” the statement noted.
