Hemang Lower Denkyira MP Lawrence Agyinsam Welcomes Jukwa Senior High Students to Parliament, Urges Them to Excel

Hon. Lawrence Agyinsam, Member of Parliament for Hemang Lower Denkyira, has welcomed 58 students from Jukwa Senior High Technical School who visited Parliament led by their teacher, Francis Arthur. The students, studying government, were given a tour of Parliament and addressed by the MP.

Addressing the students, Hon. Agyinsam expressed his happiness to be the first MP they’ve met, despite their annual visits. He encouraged them to work hard, citing the possibility of one day becoming MPs themselves. “My prayer is that you’ll learn very hard… so that one day one of you will also find himself or herself in parliament,” he said.

The MP thanked the teachers and staff who accompanied the students, including the senior head, senior master, house master, and driver. He announced plans to provide free NHIS for the students, citing the need to address adolescent health issues, particularly teenage pregnancy, which is prevalent in the Central Region.

Hon. Agyinsam highlighted the importance of career education, encouraging students to consider various professions beyond teaching and nursing. “We don’t hear much of ‘I want to be a lawyer.’ We don’t hear much of ‘I want to be a doctor.’ We don’t hear much of I want to be a pharmacist or an IT person,” he said.

The MP noted the challenges faced by the school, including inadequate desks and chairs, and revealed he had raised the issue with the minister of education. He warned students about the negative effects of social media and urged them to restore Jukwa Senior High’s former glory in academics and sports.

To support their studies, Hon. Agyinsam announced he would sponsor the upcoming mock exams, paying the fees for all 58 students. “I’m going to sponsor the mock exam… pay the mock fees for everybody,” he said, encouraging them to excel.
