Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has taken a swipe at the government, accusing it of double standards.
The lawmaker noted that although the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) demonised the then New Patriotic Party (NPP) and accused it of criminality due to sole-sourcing contracts, the government is doing worse.
Commenting on the floor of Parliament after the passage of the Legal Education Bill, he commended the government for delivering on this promise but slammed it over promises that were yet to be fulfilled.
Mr Afenyo-Markin indicated that President John Dramani Mahama, in his two State of the Nation Addresses, assured Ghanaians that sole sourcing would be a thing of the past. However, his government have become the apostles of sole sourcing.
“They said as for sole sourcing, they will never do sole sourcing. Mr Speaker, the President spoke about sole-sourcing at the manifesto launch. When he got into this chamber for the SONA, his first SONA, he talked about no sole sourcing. The second SONA some few weeks ago, he again said no sole sourcing. The majority leader himself at the dispatch box when he was closing the debate on SONA reechoed no sole sourcing. Today, we know they are the apostles of sole sourcing.”
He went on to state that the NDC promised no nepotism or family and friends, but the government has failed in delivering on those promises.
