A severe rainstorm that swept through the Greater Accra Region has left several communities in darkness, prompting the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to issue an emergency update to its customers this Sunday.
The utility provider confirmed that the current widespread outages are not a result of scheduled maintenance or load shedding but are directly linked to technical faults triggered by the intensity of the storm.
High winds and heavy downpours often lead to fallen poles, damaged transformers, or sagging lines, which can compromise the integrity of the local grid.
In a statement released on March 29, 2026, ECG management assured the public that technical teams have been dispatched to the affected areas.
“ECG wishes to assure all affected customers that our engineers are working assiduously to restore power supply,” the company stated, acknowledging the frustration caused by the sudden blackout.
While the company is addressing major feeder lines to restore power to large blocks of customers, they noted that some outages might be localised to specific houses or streets.
