A man, who claims he was misidentified as a suspect by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, is seeking compensation for losing his job and experiencing emotional distress.
Asare Francis, a junior high school graduate, stated that his ordeal commenced on July 24, 2024, when a story published by Rainbow Radio post circulated on social media featuring his photograph and declaring him a wanted individual by the special prosecutor.
Due to fear of arrest, Francis reported himself to the authorities with his brother’s assistance, only to be informed that it was a case of mistaken identity.
However, Francis says the incident has cost him his job and caused several damages.
He noted that officials clarified that he was not the individual being sought, attributing the error to incorrect information purportedly provided by a bank.
Notwithstanding his exoneration, Francis asserted that the damage had already been done.
“I was afraid when I saw the post, so I went there myself. They told me it was a mistake and I was not the person. But I have lost my job and I am going through a lot,” he said.
He had asked the Office of Special Prosecutor to consider compensating him for the hardship he has endured as a result of the error.
The OSP has not responded to the concerns raised by the young man.
