Two young men have been killed and several properties destroyed following a violent clash between the youth of Asisiriwa and Brodekwano in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.
The unrest, which reportedly began around 11:00 am on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, was sparked by a domestic dispute. Preliminary investigations by the police suggest the violence was triggered by a young man from Asisiriwa allegedly cohabiting with a young woman from Brodekwano without the consent of her parents.
This personal disagreement quickly escalated into a series of retaliatory attacks between the two neighbouring communities.

During the height of the confrontation, Peterson Bonsu, 23, also known as “Low Key”, and 25-year-old Kwaku Opoku were found dead at the outskirts of Asisiriwa.
Both victims had sustained multiple cutlass wounds.
Their bodies have since been moved to the Jachie-Pramso Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The violence also left a trail of destruction, including two abandoned motorbikes and a Sprinter bus that were set ablaze.
The owner of the vehicle, Charles Owusu—who is also the father of the young man involved in the initial dispute—was targeted and attacked by a mob in Brodekwano. He managed to survive the assault after seeking refuge at the local palace, where he was eventually rescued by responding officers.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command, led by DCOP Arthur Osei-Akoto, deployed personnel from the Kuntanase District, the Asokwa Divisional Command, and the Regional Operations Unit to restore order. Police reinforcements were forced to clear roadblocks made of burning tyres to gain access to the scene.
DCOP Osei-Akoto and other senior officers have since met with the chiefs, elders, and youth leaders of both towns to mediate and de-escalate the tension. While the area is currently reported as calm, the police have intensified their presence in both communities to prevent further outbreaks of violence.

The Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Region, Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the deaths and the destruction of property. Residents are being urged to cooperate with the authorities to ensure lasting peace in the district.
