The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to allocating GH¢400 million for the completion of the long-awaited teaching hospital at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
According to him, plans are well underway to commission the facility before the year ends.
Haruna Iddrisu made this assurance while addressing guests at the launch of Mfantsipim School’s 150th anniversary celebrations, responding to a recent appeal by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who expressed his anticipation of the president’s commissioning of the KNUST Teaching Hospital.
“I am assuring him that President Mahama will, before the end of this year, join him to commission the KNUST Teaching Hospital,” the minister said.
Upon completion, the facility will serve as a pivotal teaching and referral hospital, enhancing medical training and healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region and beyond, thereby supporting the development of critical healthcare infrastructure.
The Education Minister’s remarks follow an appeal by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, urging the government to commission the first phase of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Teaching Hospital by the end of 2026.
Additionally, the Education Minister acknowledged challenges within the educational sector and advocated for broader stakeholder engagement to address these issues.
