The minority in Parliament has levelled allegations against Chris Boadi-Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), accusing him of doubling his salary without the requisite board approval.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, 16 April 2026, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, claimed that Mr Boadi-Mensah implemented this substantial pay rise immediately upon assuming office in February 2025.
This action reportedly took place during a period when the NPRA Board had not yet been inaugurated, a timeline the lawmaker described as inherently illegal.
Mr Assafuah further asserted that such an adjustment could not have been properly authorised under the existing governance framework, as the board was only constituted several months after the CEO’s appointment.
Expanding on these concerns, Mr Assafuah noted that it was particularly disturbing to see such unilateral financial decisions made in the absence of oversight.
He emphasised that pension funds are not discretionary resources to be managed at will but are instead deferred wages belonging to Ghanaian workers. Consequently, he argued that these funds and the administration of the authority must be handled with the highest level of fiduciary discipline and transparency.
