The Ashanti Regional Police Command has apprehended a young man, Ebenezer Frimpong, for allegedly stealing a police armoured vehicle.
The incident began at the Nkawie Market when the suspect reportedly capitalised on a momentary security lapse.
The police driver had briefly stepped away from the vehicle to purchase medication, leaving the engine running—a window of opportunity Frimpong was quick to exploit.
After entering the idling vehicle and driving off, the suspect triggered an immediate and intensive manhunt.
A nearby police patrol team spotted the departing armoured car and initiated a high-stakes pursuit through the region.
The chase spanned several kilometres, finally concluding in the community of Mim, located near Abuakwa within the Kumasi enclave.
It was there that a specialised SWAT team successfully intercepted the vehicle, brought the suspect to a halt, and took him into custody without further incident.
Following the recovery of the vehicle, the Ashanti Regional Police issued a formal statement confirming that the armoured car has been secured and returned to the fleet.
Ebenezer Frimpong remains in police custody, where he is currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations to determine his motives and any potential security breaches that led to the theft.
