The Ghana Water Institute (GWI) Class of 1996 recently marked a milestone, gathering to celebrate their 30th anniversary under the inspiring theme “Learning Skills, Success Made Simple”.
The event served as both a nostalgic reunion and a platform to showcase the institution’s evolving role in shaping the nation’s technical landscape.
Addressing the media, Dr Zulkarein Nashiru, who serves as both the Rector of the Ghana Water Institute and the Chairman of the Anniversary Committee, highlighted the school’s fundamental purpose.
He explained that the institute’s primary mandate remains the provision of specialised capacity training for the Ghana Water Company Limited, which acts as its parent organisation.
This synergy ensures that the workforce remains equipped with the modern expertise required to manage the country’s essential water infrastructure.
Dr Nashiru also shared significant updates regarding the institute’s academic standing and curriculum. He announced that the school has officially secured accreditation from the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).
The certification supports a robust two-year programme focused on water supply management, operations, and maintenance.
In a move that prioritises hands-on expertise over traditional classroom learning, the curriculum is structured to include eighteen months of intensive practical experience alongside four months of theoretical study.
Dr Nashiru confirmed that the institute has been granted the authority to award Higher National Diplomas (HND), elevating its status within the higher education sector.
The future looks particularly promising for prospective students due to a strategic partnership between the Ghana Water Institute and the Denmark government.
Dr Nashiru noted that this international collaboration ensures that graduates are well-positioned for immediate employment upon completion of their training.
He concluded by encouraging the youth to take advantage of these vocational opportunities, urging them to enrol in the institute to secure a professional future in a vital and growing industry.
