NPP allowed the NDC to spew fabricated lies and propaganda to make us lose the elections – Amfo-Sefah

Dennis Amfo-Sefah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Tema West, has asserted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured their election victory through a campaign built on fabricated falsehoods.

According to Amfo-Sefah, the “Elephant Family” inadvertently paved the way for this outcome by allowing the NDC to spread unchecked propaganda that systematically tarnished the previous government’s reputation.

He indicated that many of the grievances the NDC leveraged against the NPP lacked any factual basis, yet they resonated with a public that had grown to believe them. Speaking with Kwabena Agyapong, host of Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he remarked:

“The NPP allowed the NDC to spew lots of propaganda to make us lose the elections. They fabricated lies against our government which Ghanaians believed, and that made us lose. We failed to counter their lies and propaganda, so the people bought into many of the things they said, although they were not true.”

Amfo-Sefah further highlighted a glaring inconsistency in the current administration’s rhetoric regarding global economics.

He recalled how the NDC previously dismissed the NPP’s assertions that the Russia-Ukraine war had crippled the global and domestic economy.

“However, today, the same party in government is claiming that the ongoing war between the US and Israel is affecting our economy. This has exposed their hypocrisy. It has affirmed that what happened between Russia and Ukraine was indeed a major challenge for us.”

Turning his attention to the crisis of illegal mining, or galamsey, the parliamentary candidate pointed out the failed promises of the current administration.

He specifically cited figures such as the current minister of communications, Samuel Nartey George, who had once claimed the government could resolve the galamsey menace within 48 hours.

Amfo-Sefah argued that since taking power, the NDC has not only failed to stop the practice but that politicians affiliated with the ruling government are now the primary beneficiaries.

He expressed disappointment that professional bodies, trade unions, and religious groups—who once supported the NDC’s critiques—have remained silent as the situation worsens.

“The former President placed his presidency on the line in the fight against galamsey, yet we had the likes of Sammy George saying the President could have ended it in 48 hours. Under the NDC, we now have a Gold Board purchasing gold from illegal miners. Galamsey has worsened because the miners have become bold, knowing the Gold Board is doing business with them.”
