A tiler in his late thirties is fighting for his life at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after allegedly using a tailoring machine to slit his own throat in Mankessim, within the Mfantseman Municipality.
The victim, a Kumasi native who resides in Ajumako Techiman and commutes to Mankessim for contract work, was discovered in a critical state on Sunday, 26 April 2026.
The incident occurred while the victim was resting at a friend’s house.
While alone in the property, he reportedly locked himself inside a room and used the powered machinery to inflict the life-threatening injury.
His friend returned to find the door bolted from the inside and, upon forcing open a window, discovered the victim collapsed in a pool of blood with his throat slashed.
With the assistance of neighbours, the victim was rushed to Mankessim Roman Hospital before being transferred to Accra for specialist care.
Those close to him, including his apprentices and the friend involved, expressed shock at the event, noting that he had shown no prior signs of distress or shared any personal grievances.
Local police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, while the victim’s family is yet to be formally notified.
