Ghana Rescues 28 Trafficking Victims from Côte d’Ivoire

May 11, 2026

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully repatriated 28 Ghanaian nationals following the bust of a sophisticated human trafficking syndicate in Côte d’Ivoire.

The victims, who are primarily young people, arrived back in Ghana on Sunday following a coordinated mission between national security operatives and officials from the Ghana Embassy in Abidjan.

A statement issued by the Ministry confirmed that the rescued individuals are currently in a safe location and are cooperating with authorities to assist in ongoing investigations.

The operation’s success was largely attributed to the effective intelligence sharing and logistical support provided by Ivorian authorities.

The Ghanaian government expressed its gratitude to its neighbouring counterparts for the seamless collaboration that led to the dismantling of the network’s immediate operations.

In the wake of the rescue, the Mahama administration has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the masterminds behind these criminal enterprises.

The Ministry emphasised that significant resources are being deployed to track down those responsible and prevent the further exploitation of vulnerable citizens.

The public is being urged to exercise extreme caution when approached by recruitment agencies offering lucrative job opportunities or travel arrangements abroad.

To avoid falling prey to similar schemes, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised prospective travellers to verify the legitimacy of any offers with the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, or relevant diplomatic missions before making any commitments.

The state maintains that the protection and welfare of its citizens, both home and abroad, remain the ultimate priority.
