Nana Bonsu, Convener of the Justice and Accountability Forum, has called on social commentator Joseph Bediako to cease his harassment of Anthony Kofi Sarpong, the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The Forum has observed that Mr. Bediako has adopted a pattern of behavior specifically designed to undermine the public officer.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Nana Bonsu noted that since his appointment, Mr. Sarpong has distinguished himself by bringing sanity to the GRA and ensuring the state collects the revenue necessary for national transformation.

Information gathered by the Forum suggests that while Mr. Sarpong has previously shown kindness toward Mr. Bediako, there now appears to be a calculated agenda to destroy their relationship.

Consequently, Nana Bonsu advised the commentator to seek amicable solutions to any grievances rather than resorting to unconventional means to sabotage the GRA boss.

Nana Bonsu further claimed that Mr. Sarpong had personally sponsored eye surgery for Mr. Bediako and supported him in various other capacities.

However, he alleged that Mr. Bediako began leveling complaints against the GRA boss only after certain recent requests were denied.

The Forum noted that this behavior mirrors past actions taken against former Commissioners, suggesting a recurring strategy of antagonism.

To illustrate this pattern, Nana Bonsu recounted how the former Commissioner-General, Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Nti, previously sued Mr. Bediako for alleging that he had connived with Customs Division officials to steal from the state. In a writ filed at the Accra High Court on May 3, 2019, by counsel Gary Nimako Marfo, it was averred that Mr. Bediako made those defamatory comments during a press conference held by the Movement for Truth and Accountability (MTA) on April 27, 2019.

Nana Bonsu cautioned that Mr. Bediako must learn from these past incidents to avoid further legal trouble, referencing his recent arrest during his late father’s funeral as a cautionary example.

He added by asserting that Mr. Sarpong is a man of integrity and will not be distracted by the attempts of any individuals or groups to derail his work.

“There are some individuals who will try and attack you, especially when they come to you and make requests and they are turned down. You’ve gone to the man and made a request, and he has asked you to exercise patience, but you’ve gotten angry and rushed to CHRAJ. I don’t think it is the best. He should rescind his decision and engage the man on the best way forward.”
