I No Longer Have Friends in the Music Industry – Kwaisey Pee

Highlife sensation Kwaisey Pee has opened up about his current standing within the Ghanaian music scene, revealing that he no longer maintains friendships with his industry colleagues.

Speaking in a candid interview with Eddie Ray on Rainbow Radio’s mid-morning drive, the veteran singer explained that while he once had a circle of peers, he no longer has a single musician he relates to as a friend.

When asked specifically if there was any musician he could call for a personal chat, his response was definitive.

“I don’t have that. I don’t have one,” he stated, citing bitter lessons learned from his past experiences.

He noted that he has deliberately distanced himself to avoid the emotional pain he previously endured, adding, “I used to have friends in the industry but for now I no longer do.”

Beyond his personal relationships, Kwaisey Pee lamented what he perceives as unfair treatment from the industry at large.

Despite his 25-year tenure and his reputation for producing timeless, high-quality music that does not fade, he feels his contributions have not been properly recognised.

He attributed some of this friction to his outspoken and confident nature, which he claims has led others to label him as arrogant or even attempt to sabotage his career.

The musician further suggested that his high professional standards often make him a difficult person for others to manage, admitting that even he sometimes finds his own demanding nature a challenge.

He expressed frustration with an industry culture that he believes rewards sycophancy and “fan fooling.”

As someone who refuses to compromise his integrity or engage in “kissing of asses,” he admitted that fitting in has become increasingly difficult.

Nevertheless, despite feeling unfairly treated by both colleagues and industry players, Kwaisey Pee remains resilient, noting that he continues to finance and oversee nearly all of his own productions.
