May 20, 2026

The Government of Ghana was represented at the swearing-in ceremony of H.E. Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, by Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, Deputy Foreign Minister, on Tuesday, 12th May, 2026, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.

The ceremony, which marked President Museveni’s inauguration for a seventh term in office following his victory in the January 2026 presidential election, brought together several heads of state and government, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of regional and international organisations.

In his inaugural address, President Museveni highlighted the economic progress made by Uganda under his administration and reiterated his government’s commitment to industrialisation, economic transformation, and regional integration.

A key theme of the address was the importance of value addition and industrialisation across Africa.

President Museveni urged African countries to reduce dependence on the export of raw materials and instead focus on local processing and manufacturing to create jobs, increase national revenue, and stimulate economic growth.

The Ugandan leader also called for stronger economic integration among African countries and encouraged international partners to support Africa’s industrialisation agenda.

He further outlined ongoing efforts under Uganda’s Parish Development Model aimed at improving livelihoods, particularly in rural communities, through enhanced agricultural production, water access, and poverty alleviation initiatives.

Ghana’s participation in the ceremony reaffirmed the warm bilateral relations existing between Ghana and Uganda, as well as Ghana’s commitment to promoting African solidarity, regional stability, and cooperation among African states.
