The Government of Ghana has announced a comprehensive support package for citizens being evacuated from South Africa following a recent surge in xenophobic attacks.
The initiative, orchestrated through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, aims to ensure the safe return and smooth resettlement of affected Ghanaians.
According to an official statement from the Ministry, the state has established a structured five-tier intervention plan to cushion the returnees against the immediate shocks of displacement.
Upon arrival, the evacuated citizens will receive an initial financial package alongside dedicated transport assistance to convey them safely to their respective destinations across the country.
To facilitate long-term stability, the government is also providing a re-integration allowance and offering free psychosocial support to help returnees cope with the trauma associated with the unrest.
Furthermore, the Ministry noted that all evacuated individuals will be registered in a specialized database designed to connect them directly with employment pathways and startup business opportunities.
Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians abroad, the government emphasized that the measures reflect its core mandate to protect and cherish its citizens during global crises.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed affected persons and their families to its official channels for ongoing updates regarding the repatriation schedule.
