The Ministry of Transport has officially launched an investigation into the suspected mismanagement of GH¢40 million earmarked for the rehabilitation of the Accra–Nsawam railway line in 2024.
This probe follows growing public concern over the utilization of the funds, which were originally allocated to revitalize the crucial transit route connecting the capital to Nsawam.
To address these concerns, the Ministry has formed a dedicated committee tasked with conducting a thorough forensic audit of the project’s expenses.
The scope of the inquiry aims to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding how the funds were disbursed, identify any financial irregularities, and determine whether value for money was achieved.
Speaking to journalists regarding the development, Ministry representative Joseph Bukari Nikpe emphasized the government’s commitment to accountability, assuring the public that the committee will establish the facts surrounding the expenditure.
The Accra–Nsawam rail line serves as a vital economic artery, traditionally moving thousands of commuters daily and easing vehicular traffic on the heavily congested Accra-Nsawam highway.
The ongoing delays and alleged financial misconduct surrounding its rehabilitation have sparked frustration among traders and daily commuters who rely heavily on affordable rail transport.
