A two-and-a-half-year-old boy who went missing from Assin Awiafitaamu, near Ketukrom in the Assin North District, has been found dead following an intensive three-day search.
The deceased, Nana Yaw, disappeared on 13 May 2026 after being left in the care of his two siblings while their grandmother visited a farm.
His grandfather, Godwin Tettey Amanor, formally reported the disappearance to the police on 15 May after initial community search efforts and local radio announcements failed to locate the child.
Hunters pursuing game with dogs near Papa Magye’s village discovered the toddler’s body in dense undergrowth on 17 May at approximately 4:39 pm.
They raised the alarm and alerted the family, who subsequently informed the authorities.
A police team, led by District Crime Officer ASP Charles Akugre, launched an investigation at the scene, locating the body roughly two kilometres from where the boy vanished and 500 metres from a nearby cottage.
The child was found lying on his back, wearing an orange T-shirt and violet trousers, with his rubber sandals positioned about a metre away.
A police inspection revealed bruising to his head and body. Due to signs of decomposition, initial assessments suggest the child died late on 16 May.
Following forensic photography, the body was transported to Assin Foso St. Francis Xavier Hospital, where death was officially confirmed.
The body remains in the hospital mortuary for an autopsy, and police investigations are ongoing.
