One person has been confirmed dead and several others are fighting for their lives in nearby medical facilities following a severe road accident involving two articulated trucks on the Cape Coast–Kumasi Highway.
According to initial briefings from the Ghana Police Service, the crash involved a Shacman heavy-duty tipper truck and a Howo flatbed truck.
Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the articulated vehicles was navigating the busy highway when it unexpectedly hit a severe pothole.
The injured include the driver of a Shacman articulated truck, 33-year-old Gariba Daniel, and a female passenger, 25-year-old Bridget Dadzie.
Another passenger, 36-year-old Vincent Anaman, was tragically pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, the police confirmed that Bridget Dadzie is the wife of the deceased.
Both Daniel and Dadzie remain admitted and are responding to treatment at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and an autopsy.
Meanwhile, the driver of the second vehicle, 38-year-old Yaya Latif, alongside his driver’s mate, Issah Mohammed, also sustained injuries during the crash.
They are currently receiving medical attention at the Assin Anyinabrim Health Clinic.
Briefing the media on the incident, the Central North Regional MTTD Commander, ASP Wonder Lumor, explained that the crash occurred when the Shacman articulated truck (registration number GX 3858-25)—which was loaded with clinker and travelling from Takoradi toward Kumasi—allegedly hit a severe pothole upon reaching the outskirts of Assin Nsuta.
According to the police, the heavy impact caused the driver to lose steering control.
The truck veered sharply into the opposite lane, crashing violently into the rear trailer and tires of an oncoming Howo flatbed articulated truck (registration number GT 8837-23).
