Firefighters from the Techiman Fire Station successfully pulled a driver from the wreckage of an overturned cargo truck in Fante New Town on Wednesday afternoon.
The emergency began at 15:57 hours when the station received a distress call reporting a severe road traffic accident within the Techiman Municipality.
A six-member rescue team was dispatched immediately, arriving at the scene within minutes to find a MAN Diesel cargo truck, registered as AC-451-23, lying heavily on its side.
The vehicle, which was transporting 250 boxes of Obolo soap, had completely trapped the driver beneath its mangled frame.
“The situation required immediate, careful intervention,” a spokesperson for the regional fire service noted. “Our crew had to perform a rapid assessment of the vehicle’s stability before initiating extrication procedures to ensure we didn’t compromise the driver’s safety further.”
Using specialist rescue equipment, the firefighters managed to cut through the wreckage and free the trapped motorist.
Alongside the life-saving operation, the crew worked to clear the roadway and salvage the vehicle’s cargo, securing the boxes of soap scattered across the scene.
In a statement released on Friday, 22nd May 2026, the Bono East Regional Public Relations Officer praised the swift response of the team, adding, “The efficiency of the Techiman crew not only saved a life under incredibly tight time constraints but also prevented significant economic loss by retrieving the goods intact.”
The rescued driver was handed over to paramedics at the scene for medical evaluation. Investigations into what caused the heavy vehicle to overturn are currently ongoing.
