The Attorney General has initiated legal action against Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong and his company, J.A. Plantpool, seeking the recovery of $2 million linked to a state contract.
The lawsuit stems from a 2024 agreement under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), where Plantpool was contracted to supply equipment for an agreed sum of $178,704,739.50.
According to court details presented by the Attorney General, the executed contract included a nine-item schedule specifying unit and total costs.
However, a calculation error was discovered in the documentation; while the bottom row listed the grand total as $178,704,739.50, the actual sum of the listed items amounted to $176,704,739.50, creating a $2 million discrepancy.
The Attorney General argues that the final contract sum was erroneously based on this incorrect addition rather than the actual cumulative cost of the equipment.
Despite the calculation error, the state fully disbursed the overstated amount of $178,704,739.50 to Plantpool.
Following unfulfilled demands for a refund of the excess funds, the Attorney General is now asking the court to order Dr. Agyepong and his company to return the overpaid $2 million.
