He warned that the youth are gradually becoming a liability to the state, adding that drug addiction poses a serious threat to national economic growth.

Because the very youth who are meant to manage the country’s future affairs are unable to contribute to the national discourse, he stressed that the situation is worsening daily.

The centre frequently admits children as young as 12 years old who are already battling addiction and require rehabilitation.

Apostle Washington urged the church to provide rehabilitation centres with opportunities to interact positively with congregations, particularly young people, about the negative impacts of drug abuse.

Noah King, the Public Relations Officer for the centre, indicated that the initiative to visit schools stems from a survey they conducted highlighting how drug addiction is gripping the country.

He noted that many individuals facing addiction were first introduced to drugs during their secondary education, making it vital to engage them whilst they are still in school.

Furthermore, their organisation has already liaised with the Ministry of Education and the Narcotics Control Board to scale the campaign into a nationwide programme rather than restricting it to Accra.

Following the event, several students shared how much they benefited from the programme, with some calling on the organisers to extend the initiative to junior high schools.
