The government has announced significant progress on the construction of the new Accra-Kumasi Expressway, with the Ghana Armed Forces successfully clearing approximately 51 kilometers of the designated transport corridor.

Developed under the strategic direction of President John Dramani Mahama, the multi-lane expressway aims to establish a modern, high-speed connection between Ghana’s two largest economic hubs, effectively reducing travel times and easing long-standing transit congestion.

Addressing ongoing implementation plans, Dr. Forson stated that the military task force will transition to managing the social impacts of the alignment next month.

Following comprehensive valuations and verification exercises conducted by the relevant state land and highway agencies, the Ghana Armed Forces will officially commence disbursement of compensation payments to affected property owners and farmers along the cleared stretch in June.

The involvement of military engineers is intended to ensure swift project delivery and structural integrity along what is poised to become one of the nation’s most vital commercial links.

He expressed confidence in the current pace of operations, noting that the deliberate, structured approach taken by the engineering teams establishes a firm foundation for transforming local trade and regional mobility.

Below is the statement

An update on the phenomenal work being undertaken by the Ghana Armed Forces on President Mahama’s transformational Accra-Kumasi Expressway project.

So far, about 51km of the entire stretch has been successfully cleared.

In June, following assessments by the relevant state agencies, the Ghana Armed Forces will commence the payment of compensation to affected citizens.

Steadily, deliberately, and with remarkable professionalism, the foundation is being laid for what will become one of Ghana’s most strategic and economically transformative corridors.

The progress made so far is truly impressive.
