At the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 34th anniversary celebration in Accra, key party leaders called for a sweeping transformation of Ghana’s political and social fabric through fearless governance and economic justice.

The NDC’s General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, highlighted that Ghana’s progress hinges on a leader capable of making tough, uncompromising choices.

He criticised contemporary politicians for prioritizing electoral success over national advancement, suggesting that fear of losing power paralyzes essential decision-making.

Kwetey pointed to ongoing national crises, such as devastating illegal mining (galamsey) and chronic flooding, as direct consequences of leadership failure.

He argued that modern multi-party democracy is frequently used as a shield for public indiscipline—a stark contrast to the order maintained during the PNDC era.

To rectify this, he called for a resilient leader capable of shifting the national mindset and enforcing accountability.

Adding to the call for national reform, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, focused on the socio-economic responsibilities of governance.

She reminded the party that widespread economic hardship compromises the electorate’s independence, making citizens vulnerable to short-term political bribery.

“Keeping citizens in poverty leaves them with no option but to rely on instant gratification.”

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings urged those in power to maintain humility and view their roles strictly as public servants.

She noted that because of the high benchmarks the NDC has historically set, Ghanaians expect a superior standard of governance and fair resource allocation whenever the party is at the helm.
