The Ayawaso East Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul Ganiwu Ibrahim, has commended national and party stakeholders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for naming the party’s headquarters after its founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings.
According to him, the decision is a fitting tribute to a man who played a historic role in the growth and development of the party.
He said President Rawlings contributed immensely to the NDC and deserved to have his legacy preserved and protected for generations to come.
Speaking to the media, Hon. Ibrahim noted that the move would help safeguard the memory of the late founder and reinforce the party’s commitment to honouring his contributions.
He said there had often been perceptions that the party and its founder did not enjoy a strong relationship before his passing, but the naming of the headquarters after him should put such claims to rest.
He explained that the gesture sends a clear message that the NDC continues to value and cherish the life, sacrifice, and political legacy of Jerry John Rawlings.
In his view, the decision demonstrates respect, gratitude, and a determination to ensure that history reflects the founder’s lasting impact on the party.
Hon. Ibrahim further stated that while
the late Rawlings may not have supported the decision if he were alive, the party now has a responsibility to make choices that protect and preserve his legacy.
He stressed that since the former president is no longer alive, it is only proper for the party and its stakeholders to take steps that honour his memory in a meaningful and lasting way.
The renaming of the headquarters, he added, is not just symbolic but also an important recognition of the foundation upon which the NDC was built.
