The Ghana Police Service has dealt a severe blow to a transnational criminal network operating within the Ashanti Region following a series of extensive, intelligence-led raids.

Conducted by the Inspector-General of Police (I.G.P.) Special Operations Team in close collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the coordinated crackdown has resulted in the arrest of 186 suspects and the successful rescue of multiple victims, including children.

The multi-agency operations, which spanned from 8 June to 17 June 2026, targeted several key locations, including Asafo, Kenyase Aframa, Asokwa, Buokrom, Krofrom, Atonsu-Bokuro, Asawase, and Old Tafo Ahenbronum.

Authorities confirmed that the strategic initiative was specifically designed to identify, disrupt, and dismantle sophisticated syndicates heavily involved in human trafficking, sexual exploitation, narcotics smuggling, and the unlawful possession of firearms.

A major breakthrough in the operation occurred on 9 June at Kenyase Aframa. Officers successfully apprehended a key suspect, Gladys Ibrahim, widely known by her alias “Mama Gee”.

Her arrest coincided with the detaining of 96 Nigerian nationals and four Togolese nationals at the scene. In total, the net cast by the Special Operations Team caught 86 Ghanaian nationals alongside the 100 foreign suspects.

Preliminary findings strongly link the group to an expansive, transnational network operating across West Africa.
Beyond the arrests, police confirmed that several individuals believed to be victims of horrific exploitation were safely rescued from the premises.

A number of these victims were identified as minors. In line with strict child protection protocols, the children were immediately separated from the suspects and placed under specialized protective care.

The Ghana Police Service is currently working alongside the Ghana Immigration Service to manage the documentation, support, and repatriation procedures for the foreign nationals rescued during the raids.

In an official statement, Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Region, praised the joint task force for their precision and resolve.

“The Command commends the professionalism and dedication of the Special Operations Team and the Ashanti Regional Police Command whose collaborative efforts led to the successful execution of these operations,” Ahianyo stated.

While the initial raids have concluded, the investigation remains very much active. Police are tracking down remaining affiliates of the criminal network, and all 186 suspects are currently in custody aiding officers with their enquiries.

Reinforcing the government’s stance on borderless organized crime, Ahianyo added that the Ghana Police Service “remains resolute in its commitment to intelligence-led policing” and will maintain a sustained presence to ensure national safety.
