The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has advised event organisers to postpone all upcoming outdoor activities, warning that persistent rainfall is predicted to continue through the week and into the weekend.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Nyankonton Mu Nsem, meteorologist Frederick Cudjoe explained that the country is set to experience highly unstable weather conditions, with prolonged sunny spells unlikely.
He indicated that intermittent rainfall is expected to begin on Wednesday evening and persist through Thursday.
The weather is projected to intensify over the weekend, bringing heavy downpours particularly to coastal areas and forest zones.
In light of these predictions, Mr Cudjoe urged the public to remain vigilant and monitor regular weather updates.
He directed citizens to check the agency’s official website at www.meteo.gov.gh, alongside its verified social media platforms, for real-time information.
Furthermore, GMet has warned of potential localised flash flooding in high-risk areas.
Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution on the roads by reducing their speed and using headlights where visibility is compromised.
Pedestrians have similarly been urged to avoid walking through floodwaters under any circumstances.
Providing a regional breakdown, the agency previously announced that the Greater Accra, Volta, Central, and Eastern regions face a high probability—exceeding 60%—of rainfall between 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Western, Ashanti, Ahafo, Western North, and Bono regions are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms between 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with a medium to high probability ranging from 40% to 60%.
