The Government of Ghana has expressed profound sadness over the passing of the Overlord of the Dagbon Traditional Area, His Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II.
In an official statement issued by the presidency, the state extended its deepest sympathies to the royal family, the people of Dagbon, and the country at large during this period of national mourning.
The statement, signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, highly commended the late traditional ruler for his immense role in restoring stability to the region.
Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II is credited with steering Dagbon through a critical era of reconciliation following years of protracted chieftaincy disputes.
“His Majesty will be remembered as a distinguished traditional ruler whose reign brought healing, reconciliation, and lasting peace to Dagbon following years of conflict,” the statement noted.
The presidency further highlighted the late King’s collaborative relationship with the state, which fostered socio-economic growth and community development within his jurisdiction.
According to the government, his leadership style built a critical bridge between state institutions and traditional governance, ensuring that local development remained a top priority.
“His unwavering commitment to unity, stability, and the welfare of his people created an enabling environment for development and strengthened the enduring partnership between the traditional authorities and the Government in advancing progress across Dagbon and Ghana,” the statement added.
Paying tribute to his legacy, the government urged future generations to emulate his peaceful disposition, leadership qualities, and exceptional service to the country.
