President John Dramani Mahama has nominated three prominent legal figures for appointment to the country’s apex court, the Supreme Court.
The nominees include Court of Appeal Justices Sophia Bernasko-Essah and Amoako Asante, along with highly respected legal practitioner and former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Tony Forson.
Notably, Justice Amoako Asante brings significant international judicial experience to the table, having previously served as the President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice before returning to serve on the Ghanaian bench.
The nominations were made following thorough consultations with the Judicial Council, fully satisfying Ghana’s constitutional requirements for apex court appointments.
If Parliament grants its approval, these appointments will see the number of sitting Supreme Court justices rise from 18 to 21, effectively expanding the composition and capacity of the highest court in the land.
