Retired Supreme Court Justice William Atuguba has expressed shock at the reasons why the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey has not yet been appointed a minister.
The retired apex court justice described Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as a woman of principle, dedication, and integrity. He opined that the lawmaker should have been given a ministerial role in the Mahama administration.
He made the remarks at a memorial lecture held in honour of the first Speaker of Parliament in the Fourth Republic, Justice D. F. Annan.
In his view, the MP is the type of individual that politicians must aspire to be because she is not a partisan politician but a nationalist. Mr Atuguba pointed out that someone like Zanetor is not just a politician, but a woman of the people.
He stated that he has been following her activities, despite having never met her or spoken to her, adding that she is the kind of politician everyone must aspire to be.
Amidst laughter at the ceremony, Justice Atuguba declared he hoped his public commentary had not destroyed any existing chances for the MP to be given any ministerial appointment.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was in May 2026 elected Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), winning the vote by 131 to 51.
In her new role on the PAP Bureau, she will help steer the parliament’s legislative direction, strategic priorities, and institutional development.
The PAP itself serves to promote integration, co-operation, and democratic governance amongst member states, whilst advising on key policy matters across Africa.
