Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has rejected a recent survey by Global InfoAnalytics that ranked him among the “low-performing” lawmakers in the country.
The ranking, led by Mr Mussa Dankwa, went viral on social media, categorising various parliamentarians into high and low performers based on constituency-level assessments.
Addressing journalists at Parliament House, Dr Amoah expressed deep disappointment with the classification. He argued that a parliamentarian’s core duty is legislative work on the floor of the House, where his own record remains unquestionable.
The Nhyiaeso MP cited his extemporaneous contributions during debates, noting that the Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Alban Bagbin, had previously set up committees to consider his proposals due to their national significance.
Dr Amoah clarified that he was not responding to Mussa Dankwa’s survey merely out of personal grievance, but to correct public misinformation that could mislead society.
He further stated that the research findings present a skewed and inaccurate picture of his tangible achievements in his constituency.
“I respect Mussa Dankwa and the work he does, but that does not mean all his works are without blemish. He should think again. The work he has done placing me under the worst-performing MPs is ridiculously false. I don’t know the methodology he used. I have distinguished myself so well as the MP, which is why my constituency retained me. On scholarships alone, I have awarded over 1,000 people. If I provide the full data, it surpasses 1,400. Can you claim I am a worst-performing MP with this solid record?
Beyond the scholarship project, I have provided tables and chairs to over 1,400 children. As for security, I purchased a brand-new Toyota Hilux to fight local crime. I have provided water systems for 14 out of the 24 communities in my constituency. We have also trained over 1,000 young people in various skills, including DSTV installation, baking, and hairdressing. I have constructed several footbridges and provided financial support to churches and Islamic communities,” Dr Amoah stated.
He insisted that under no circumstances could anyone list the top five most impactful MPs in the current Parliament without including him.
“The core function of an MP is in Parliament. I believe in myself as an efficient MP. You are all witnesses, and you cannot pick the top five MPs without mentioning Stephen Amoah as one of those who are very good on the floor. It is not possible unless you are lying. In terms of extemporaneous presentations, I am a top performer. The Right Honourable Bagbin set up committees to study my presentations, and someone dares call me a worst performer?” he questioned.
He added, “Mussa Dankwa should think again. The work he did is unfair. It is demotivating and does not encourage us to do more. KMA has adjudged me as one of the best MPs in terms of how I utilise my Common Fund. Was KMA blind when they made that pronouncement?”
Dr Amoah also highlighted his ongoing support for party members and constituents through a dedicated medical trust fund operated with Fidelity Bank.
He concluded that several parameters used in the survey were flawed and fundamentally misaligned with the real constitutional duties of a lawmaker, reiterating that the findings about his performance were false.
