The government has begun setting up 50 Farmer Service Centres across the country alongside placing GH¢551 million into an escrow account to buy 1,840 units of farm machinery in an effort to boost food security and modernise agriculture.

“We have commenced the establishment of the fifty farmer service centers across the country to improve farmers access to mechanization and expansion services,” he stated.

To finance the equipment purchase, funds have been deposited directly at the central bank.

“To support this initiative government has deposited five hundred and fifty-one million in the Ghana cities into an escrow account at the Bank of Ghana to establish the letters of credit for the procurement of thousand eight hundred and forty units of agriculture machineries,” Dr Forson said.

The procurement package covers a range of essential agricultural tools, including tractors, trailers, power trailers, cultivators, seed drills, fertilizer spreaders, and combined harvesters.

“These include tractors, trailers, power trailers, clouds, cultivators, seed grills, fertilizers, spreaders, and combined harvestments which will significantly improve farm productivity, reduce production cost, and enhance food security,” Dr Forson told the House.
