Police in the Western Central Region have arrested four members of a suspected robbery syndicate believed to be behind a violent attack on a gold dealer at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area.

The suspects have been identified as 25-year-old Kwabena Amuah, also known as IK; 23-year-old Mohammed Nasir, alias Mallam; 24-year-old Samuel Agyei, also known as Okese-1; and 26-year-old Kofi Gyasi, alias Brefo.

According to official police reports, the arrests stem from an armed robbery reported on 11 March 2026.

The complainant, Mr Oris Oduro, told officers that after closing his gold-buying business at Tamakloe at around 11:00 p.m., he hired a commercial motorcycle, locally known as an Okada, to transport him to his residence at Wassa Akropong. While en route, the duo were ambushed by armed men who robbed them at gunpoint.

The gang made off with GH¢24,000 in cash, seven pounds and six matches of gold valued at GH¢94,530, an iPhone XR, and a Tecno Spark 12 mobile phone.

Following a thorough investigation, intelligence-led operations conducted on 21 and 22 July 2026 at Duaso and Domeabra led officers directly to the four suspects. They were subsequently arraigned before the Wassa Akropong District Court on 23 July 2026, where they were remanded into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

“The Western Central Regional Police Command is actively pursuing the remaining suspect, Agogo, and urges anyone with credible information regarding his whereabouts to report to the nearest Police Station,” stated Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the region.

ASP Turkson further reassured local residents of the law enforcement agency’s resolve to tackle violent crime in the area.

“The Regional Police Command assures the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining peace and security, and bringing all perpetrators of crime to justice,” she added.
