Management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has taken swift punitive action against two Port Health officers at Accra International Airport following a fresh case of extortion.
The two officers, stationed inside Terminal 3, were caught red-handed demanding extra cash from a foreign traveler for the issuance of an official Yellow Fever Card on August 5, 2026.
Official GACL directives specify that the standard fee for a Yellow Fever Card stands at USD 20 for foreign passport holders and GHS 100 for Ghanaian citizens.
However, the corrupt officers inflated the price, forcing the foreign passenger to hand over USD 40.
Responding swiftly to the violation, GACL management immediately revoked the operational credentials of both individuals to protect the integrity of airport operations.
“Immediate action has been taken: Their ID cards to operate in the terminal have been withdrawn and deactivated,” GACL stated. “As of Thursday, 6th August 2026, the two officers are no longer permitted to work at Accra International Airport or any other GACL-operated airport.”
The crackdown comes amidst heightened public scrutiny following a separate viral video that recently exposed a Ghana Immigration Service officer soliciting “breakfast” money from a traveler.
Addressing that incident, GACL confirmed that the Ghana Immigration Service has already removed and transferred the officer from the airport terminal.
Determined to weed out bad nuts and restore traveler confidence, GACL management issued a stern warning to all airport personnel while calling on the public to help expose corrupt practices.
“Management reiterates: Everyone is being watched,” the statement warned. “We urge all passengers: Spot it. Record it. Report it. Use our dedicated hotline: 054 217 5636.”
Reaffirming its position on maintaining world-class aviation standards, GACL emphasized that it “remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy on extortion and to protecting the integrity and reputation of Ghana’s airports.”
