The Ministry of Education has promised a thorough and transparent review following formal complaints from the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) regarding the provisional 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.
The assurance was given in Accra by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Apaak, after receiving an official petition from the association demanding an immediate audit and review of the standard of assessment.
Private school leaders have raised sharp concerns over noticeable grading inconsistencies and unexpectedly low pass rates among candidates from non-state institutions.
Crucially, the petition also highlights troubling anomalies where several pupils were reportedly awarded grades for subjects they had never registered to write.
Speaking after receiving the documentation, Dr Apaak emphasised that the government would assess the grievances fairly and without bias, maintaining a completely open mind throughout the process.
He stressed that the administration deeply values the vital contribution private schools make to the nation’s learning ecosystem, adding that every Ghanaian child deserves equal fairness and equity, regardless of whether they are educated in the public or private sector.
Dr Apaak confirmed that the petition will be passed directly to the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, to determine the appropriate next steps and necessary administrative action.
