Kwabena Donkor threatens legal action over Asante Berko bribery allegations

August 10, 2026

Former Power Minister Dr Kwabena Donkor has emphatically denied receiving bribes or having any dealings with Asante Berko, following claims linking him to an international corruption scandal.

In a press release issued by Cavendish Chambers, the former minister addressed social media reports associating his name with the US legal proceedings involving Berko. While acknowledging that he served as Minister of Power during the height of the national power crisis, known locally as Dumso, Dr Donkor insisted he had no knowledge of any illicit demands for money.

The law firm stated that although the ministry negotiated with ASKA Energy for power generation during a period of extreme load-shedding, the minister had never interacted with Berko. According to his legal representatives, Dr Donkor “completely and emphatically denies any knowledge of a request or demand for any money as alleged.”

The statement further clarified that Dr Donkor “has never met the said Mr Asante Berko all his life” and “never discussed any personal benefit of any value whatsoever” with him or any other party. His lawyers added that he never authorised anyone to negotiate on his behalf, nor did he receive any funds in connection with the deal.

Addressing references in the US trial to a “Senior Ghana Official”, the law firm asserted that any third party who may have made criminal demands in the former minister’s name did so strictly for their own benefit. They maintained that no evidence was presented in the American court linking Dr Donkor personally to any financial wrongdoing.

Cavendish Chambers warned that any further publications seeking to impugn the reputation or integrity of their client would result in immediate legal proceedings.
