Police officers attached to the Nkawie Divisional Command have arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Francis Nsiah, following an attempted armed robbery on the Hiakose–Nweneso stretch of road in the Manso Nkwanta District of the Ashanti Region.
The arrest occurred after police operational teams intercepted an ongoing robbery attack on Friday, 7 August 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m.
Detailing the incident, the Ashanti Regional Public Affairs Unit stated: “The Nkawie Divisional Operations Patrol Team received information that an armed robbery was ongoing along the road between Hiakose and Nweneso.
The Police immediately proceeded to the location.”
Upon arrival at the scene, patrol officers heard gunshots and spotted one of the armed robbers fleeing into nearby bushes carrying a stolen bag.
Although the suspect initially escaped into the bush, a search of the immediate area enabled police to retrieve key evidence left behind.
“The officers pursued the suspect, while a search of the area subsequently led to the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to belong to some of the victims,” the unit confirmed.
Police subsequently received intelligence indicating that a wounded individual matching the description of the fled suspect had presented himself at a local health center for emergency care.
“The Police later received information that one of the suspected robbers had sought medical treatment at a medical facility for gunshot wounds. Officers proceeded to the facility, where they arrested Francis Nsiah, 25 years old, who was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his buttock,” the statement noted.
The suspect remains under heavy police guard at the medical facility while receiving treatment for his injury.
The command added that “investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify and apprehend other persons who may have been involved.”
