The Court of Appeal has thrown out an application from the Attorney-General seeking to hold off the release of former MASLOC boss, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, following her recent acquittal.
State prosecutors told the court on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, that they had decided to drop the motion, having already filed a formal notice of withdrawal earlier in the week on 10 August.
The decision came just as the judges were set to deliver their ruling on the matter. Principal State Attorney Hilda Craig confirmed the State’s move to pull the application. Although defence lawyer Sidney Antonio pointed out that the State should have formally asked for permission before withdrawing, he raised no opposition to the move.
The Attorney-General had initially filed the application to suspend the execution of the court’s earlier decision, which overturned Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu’s conviction and 10-year jail term. While the State continues to challenge her full discharge at the Supreme Court, this particular legal hurdle at the Appellate Court is now officially closed.
