Several other victims who sustained severe injuries were rushed to the hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Confirming the incident on Rainbow Radio’s flagship morning show, Frontline, a Public Relations officer for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DO1, Emmanuel Bonney, disclosed that 13 of the injured passengers were transported to the Achimota Hospital for urgent medical care.

Addressing the potential cause of the crash, the fire officer noted that it was too early to draw conclusions, pointing out that eyewitnesses on the scene had provided conflicting accounts of how the disaster unfolded.

He assured host Kwabena Agyapong that the GNFS is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation into the precise circumstances leading to the collision.

“The cause of the accident is not readily known. There are several eyewitness accounts. So we want to collaborate with the Police and investigate the cause of the accident. We do not want to speculate. We will therefore admonish the public to exercise patience as we investigate the matter to determine the exact cause of the accident,” he stated.

The early morning collision reduced the Sprinter bus to a heap of mangled metal, trapping several passengers beneath the debris. Emergency personnel who were dispatched to the location worked tirelessly to extricate the victims from the wreckage and render immediate life-saving support.

Among the casualties evacuated by the ambulance service was a female passenger who reportedly lost both legs in the impact.

Although the crash initially triggered heavy traffic gridlock along the busy highway while rescue operations took place, the senior fire officer confirmed that the scene has since been cleared of the damaged vehicles and bloodstains, allowing traffic to flow smoothly once again.
