Political analyst Samuel Boateng has expressed deep disappointment in delegates of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region for retaining Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, as their Regional Chairman. According to him, the party should have shown the controversial politician the exit, given his poor performance and public conduct during his previous tenure.
Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr Boateng asserted that Chairman Abronye failed to protect the party’s gains in the region, supervising a severe decline that left the NPP with only a single parliamentary seat. He added that the chairman has consistently failed to distinguish himself as a refined politician deserving of a high-profile leadership role.
The analyst emphasised that the era of insults, vilification, violence, and indecent language in politics should be a thing of the past, insisting that someone with Abronye’s reputation should not hold any executive position. He questioned what new strategies the re-elected chairman could possibly offer after failing to deliver while previously serving in the same capacity.
Mr Boateng argued that all NPP regional executives across the country failed the party in the 2024 elections, stating that those who lost their bids deserved their fate.
“One of the people who won that I was disappointed in was Abronye. I had wanted all the chairmen to lose because of how abysmal the party performed in the 2024 elections. I was thinking all the executives who supervised the defeat of the NPP ought to have been defeated. Abronye, for instance, failed the party. The party lost 11 seats in the region, and so politically, he should not have even contested. But the delegates have decided to retain him, and it surprised me what they saw in him to retain him,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Boateng has advised all newly elected regional executives to remain neutral and avoid openly supporting any particular aspirant in the upcoming national executive contests. He stressed that the NPP must remain united, strong, and well-prepared ahead of the 2028 general elections.
His comments follow the party’s regional elections held at Baakuniaba, near Sunyani, where Mr Baffoe secured a decisive victory to retain his seat, polling 201 votes to defeat his closest contender, Joseph Mensah, who obtained 31 votes.
