Mahama Urges Early Sign-Up as Saglemi Housing Sales Near Launch

Ghanaians looking to secure accommodation at the revitalized Saglemi Housing Project are advised to apply promptly as soon as applications open, given that demand is anticipated to be exceptionally high.

“I want to encourage Ghanaians to register as soon as the sales portal opens because these houses will be in high demand,” President John Dramani Mahama stated during a recent site visit to inspect ongoing works.

Addressing journalists at the location, the President explained that the residential development, which suffered years of delay owing to legal complications, is now being delivered through a public-private partnership with LMI.

The project developers have indicated that 700 housing units are scheduled for commissioning by March next year, while the remaining total of 1,500 units will be completed by December 2026.

Recounting the history of the development, President Mahama noted that the initiative was originally launched under the late President John Evans Atta Mills and carried forward by his own administration, only to be deserted following a change of government.

“Lootters came in and stole everything. The cables, the wash basins, the baths, all the fittings, electricals, bulbs. They even took the telecom cables from underground and pulled them away and took them. So it just left an empty shell,” he revealed.

The President highlighted that the Saglemi scheme aligns with the government’s wider “new city” vision, which spans the enclave from Bortianor through to Volta Lake. He further pointed out that future homeowners will benefit from key surrounding infrastructure projects.

Water supply to the estate will be provided by a dedicated water treatment plant located at the adjacent industrial site. Meanwhile, dualization of the road connecting Saglemi to Afienya has commenced, with phase one currently in progress. In addition, a railway link is envisaged to serve both local residents and commercial operations within the Dawa Industrial Park.

“This is going to be a very major industrial and residential corridor,” he affirmed.

While confirming that the property options are targeted at Ghanaian workers and families, President Mahama cautioned that commercial enterprises operating around Tema and Dawa might “snap up all the houses for their workers” if members of the public delay their applications.

He commended the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources alongside the private developers for collaborating to resurrect the housing estate, adding that he looks forward to returning “just around Easter” to officially commission the initial batch of completed homes.
