Agbeko Julious, a 26-year-old man, was allegedly assaulted by military personnel at Kyebi in the Eastern Region on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

According to reports, Julious was making a phone call at a local church when the officers accused him of filming their operations at a nearby mining site.

The military personnel reportedly seized his mobile phone during the encounter and subjected him to a physical assault that left him with severe wounds across his back and arms.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the victim’s sister, Comfort Konamah, revealed that the officers initially demanded GH₵5,000 to return the phone.

She explained that the family reported the incident to the Kyebi Police in hopes that the perpetrators would be arrested. However, despite retrieving the seized device, the police allegedly allowed the officers to leave without charge.

Konamah further alleged that police officers advised the family to let the matter rest following the return of the phone. She stated that the police refused to issue a medical form to allow the victim to receive official hospital treatment, forcing the family to cover his medical expenses out of pocket.

“We reported the matter to the police expecting them to arrest the officers, but they were left off the hook,” Konamah lamented. “The police even advised us to let the matter go after the phone was returned, and they refused to give us a medical form for the hospital.”

The victim’s family is now appealing directly to the Police Administration to intervene, investigate the alleged assault, and address the unprofessional conduct of the Kyebi Police Command.
