The parliamentary vetting of Ghanaian ministerial nominees Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has been postponed until Thursday, 27 August.

The decision shifts the schedule for the two candidates, who had originally been due to appear before the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, 25 August.

Attention now turns to the parliamentary calendar for Wednesday, 26 August, when committee proceedings are expected to focus on nominees for the Supreme Court.

The parliamentary process was formally initiated on Monday, 24 August, when the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, referred the nominations of both Members of Parliament to the committee for consideration.

Under the submitted portfolio changes, Mahama Ayariga, who serves as Majority Leader, has been put forward as the Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs. Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has been nominated to lead the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology.

The parliamentary scrutiny follows a government reshuffle announced on 7 August by President John Dramani Mahama—the first major overhaul of his executive team during his second term in office.

The wider cabinet reorganisation included several changes across key government ministries.

Ahmed Ibrahim was moved from Local Government to head the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources, whilst Kenneth Gilbert Adjei was reassigned from the Works and Housing portfolio to become Defence Minister.

Details of the administrative changes were confirmed in an official statement released by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu few weeks ago.

Following the revised timetable for ministerial vetting, proceedings for the prospective Supreme Court justices remain set to take place on Wednesday, 26 August, before the committee turns its focus to the ministerial candidates on Thursday.
