​Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to step down from Pan-African Parliament role following Ministerial nomination

Minister-designate for Environment, Science, and Technology, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has announced her intention to submit her resignation as Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament. She stated that she would formally hand over her resignation at the next sitting following her nomination as Minister-designate.

This developed when she appeared before the Vetting Committee on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin asked whether she had officially resigned or if she would be combining her ministerial role with that of the Pan-African Parliament.

In her response, she stated, “the procedure per the Pan African Parliament is at the next sitti g I am to to back amd formally hand in my resignation.”

The Chair of the Committee then quickly stepped in, reminding her that she can only resign from her position after she has been confirmed by the committee and approved by Parliament.

On April 30, 2026, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was elected Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) during its session in South Africa.

She secured a decisive victory by polling 131 votes against her opponent’s 51 votes.

Following her election, the Pan-African Parliament formally notified Ghana’s Parliament, requesting that she be accorded full ministerial-level protocols and privileges in line with AU diplomatic conventions for the role.
