The Ministry of the Interior has issued a stern warning to all certified entities engaged in the retrofitting of Armoured Bullion Vehicles (ABVs), instructing them to strictly follow applicable laws, licensing standards, and safety requirements.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for the Interior during a one-day sensitization workshop, the Deputy Minister, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, signalled that non-compliant firms would soon encounter robust legal enforcement. The workshop was jointly organized by the Ministry, the Ghana Police Service, and the Bank of Ghana to address regulations for private security organisations handling cash-in-transit operations.

Hon. Terlabi emphasized that these stringent measures are designed to safeguard human lives, protect high-value property, reinforce national security, and promote accountability and professionalism across the financial logistics sector. The Lower Manya Krobo Member of Parliament further noted that enforcing these guidelines demands seamless inter-agency cooperation, as no single institution can manage the framework in isolation.

Reinforcing the government’s stance, the Director-General of Private Security Organisations for the Ghana Police Service, COP Dr. Daniel Kwame Afriyie, stressed the vital necessity of shielding cash-in-transit personnel and securing valuable assets moved across the nation.

While assuring legitimate operators and compliant private security firms of full police support, COP Dr. Afriyie warned that authorities will actively investigate and clamp down on any entities involved in unlawful, fraudulent, or suspicious activities.
