August 28, 2026
NCA

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has formally opened applications for spectrum licences in the 700MHz, 2.3GHz, and 3GHz mid-bands to enable the rollout of 5G and enhanced mobile broadband services across Ghana.

The submission window under the Request for Applications officially closed at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, 27th August 2026.

Following the deadline, the regulator confirmed that four separate applications were submitted for the spectrum licences.

In line with established guidelines, officials proceeded immediately to open the technical documentation submitted by the applicants.

“The formal opening of Envelope A has subsequently been conducted in accordance with the published Selection and Award Procedure,” the Authority stated. “Envelope B, containing the Best Price Offer, remains sealed.”

The NCA clarified that this stage of the exercise remains purely procedural and does not indicate an endorsement of any candidate.

“The NCA emphasises that the opening of Envelope A is an administrative step in the licensing process and does not constitute an assessment or determination of the eligibility, compliance or completeness of any application,” the statement added.

Further updates on the evaluation and award process will be communicated through official NCA channels in due course.

Established under the National Communications Authority Act, 2008 (Act 769), the NCA serves as Ghana’s statutory regulator for the electronic communications sector, tasked with licensing and regulating industry activities nationwide.
