Political analyst Samuel Boateng has commended the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) for its handling of the ongoing vetting exercise, describing the process as smooth and satisfactory.
The NPP opened its four-day vetting exercise to screen 47 aspirants seeking election to various national executive positions following the successful closure of nominations. The screening process, which kicked off earlier this week, is expected to officially wrap up on Thursday, 3 September 2026.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio’s flagship news bulletin, Nyankonton Mu Nsem, Mr Boateng highlighted that the aspirants cleared so far have shown strong credentials, while the vetting panel has maintained high professional standards throughout the exercise.
“The process has been remarkably seamless so far. Looking at the aspirants who have appeared before the committee, they have demonstrated that they are fully qualified to contest these critical positions. At the same time, the Vetting Committee has shown meticulousness and impartiality in carrying out its mandate,” he stated.
Touching on the party’s broader political outlook, the analyst stressed that every stakeholder within the elephant fraternity has a vital role to play in restoring the party’s grassroots strength and regaining public confidence.
“Rebuilding the NPP is not a task for a select few. Every single member, supporter, and leader at all levels carries a direct responsibility to contribute to this revival effort. The party’s resurgence depends entirely on collective commitment,” Mr Boateng observed.
He also weighed in on the high-stakes race for the National Chairperson position, which sees three key party figures locking horns. Evaluating their prospects, Mr Boateng noted that all three contenders possess deep roots and proven records within the organisation.
“When you look at the three individuals vying for the National Chairmanship, none of them is a newcomer. They have all paid their dues, served the party in various capacities over the years, and possess the requisite experience and dedication to lead,” he explained.
He added: “Whichever candidate emerges victorious from this contest will be fully deserving of the victory and will merit the total backing of the party’s rank and file.”
Mr Boateng expressed optimism that any of the three chairmanship aspirants, once elected, would be well-equipped to collaborate with the broader national executive team to fortify the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He concluded by urging party faithful across the country to prioritize internal harmony and abide by the ground rules governing the contest.
“Elections will come and go, but the party remains. I am urging all members to uphold unity, show utmost respect for the electoral process, and rally unconditionally behind the ultimate winners as we look toward 2028,” he advised.
Four key contenders are officially locked in a fierce battle for the National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the battleground prepares for the crucial national executive elections on 3 October 2026.
Former National Chairman Paul Afoko is staging a comeback, centering his message on healing internal rifts and overhauling party machinery. He faces stiff competition from former General Secretary John Boadu, who brings a wealth of administrative muscle and national leadership credentials to the table.
Also throwing his hat into the ring is former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, whose campaign prioritises structural recovery and reinvigorating the party’s political authority. Former 2nd National Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe completes the official line-up after successfully completing nomination procedures and clearing the vetting hurdle.
Meanwhile, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, dramatically pulled out of the contest before the filing deadline despite initially picking up forms. Incumbent Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim has also chosen not to seek a fresh mandate, ensuring a new helm for the elephant party. Vetting of the four shortlisted aspirants kicked off on 31 August 2026 as the party gears up its leadership setup ahead of the crucial 2028 general elections.
