GARID urges drivers to avoid Kaneshie amid Pamprom Junction closure

Motorists without essential business in Kaneshie have been urged to avoid the corridor following a temporary road closure at Pamprom Junction expected to cause severe traffic congestion.

The westbound carriageway of the Dr Busia Highway at Pamprom Junction was closed on Monday, 7 September 2026, to allow ongoing structural works under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, GARID Project Coordinator Dr Ohene Sarfo warning that the closure will intensify pressure on the already congested area.

“What we advise is that if you don’t have any business in Kaneshie as a destination, as much as possible, avoid it, because the traffic will build up, and it will really be inconvenient,” he stated.

Dr Sarfo advised commuters to utilise alternative routes to bypass the bottleneck. Options include travelling via Kwame Nkrumah Avenue through Abossey Okai or Kaneshie North to join the N1. Alternatively, drivers can take the Atta Mills Highway through Korle Bu and Dansoman, exiting around Mallam and Sakaman.

“You could even use the Atta Mills Highway and onwards through Korle Bu, Dansoman, and exit at Mallam, Sakaman, thereabouts, so that the volumes would reduce coming to this point, because this is a hotspot now,” he noted.

Appealing for patience, Dr Sarfo urged motorists who must use the route to comply with traffic diversions to prevent unnecessary delays and facilitate swift execution of the project.

“For those who need to come through here, we would ask for your cooperation so that we can get this activity ongoing quickly, finish quickly, and then we can open it up to traffic,” he added.

The roadworks form part of flood mitigation and drainage infrastructure upgrades across the Greater Accra Region. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
